Alessandro is getting ready for Fall fashion! He is previewing a silk scarf designed by artist Jerome Curchod which was part of a larger collection of prints which recently debuted in a wine cave which doubled as a gallery in the french part of Switzerland.

Jerome’s next show will be at the Wilshire Ebell Theater sometime in the beginning of the year. Check back for more info!

Marc and I love going to the movies and our favorite theater is the Laemmle in Pasadena. The movies are great, the parking is easy and it’s next to a bookstore (Vroman’s) always fun to browse before and/or after.

These are some of the movies we’ve seen this summer worth mentioning.

Mainstream but very funny: The Proposal with Sandra Bullock and Ryan Reynolds. Takes place in a gorgeous house on a lake in Alaska which I just read was actually Connecticutt! Check out this hysterical promo from Funny or Die!

Indie and really shows off downtown Los Angles: (500) days of Summer. Not just a 20 something love story, much cooler with some interesting stylistic ingredients. They did a really good job on this one and if you like Zooey Deschanel she’s really great in this!

Sam Mendes does it again. I’m guess for much less money than Revolutionary Road. Far and Away starring Maya Rudolph and John Krazinski. We should watch The Office more often. That guy is great.
Great movie, entertaining, cool and good message.

My brother just saw the new Francis Ford Coppola movie Tetro and really liked it. This made me totally out of the loop since we follow Coppola pretty closely and somehow I missed this. But I just checked movies playing in Hollywood and this one is nowhere to be seen. Interesting….

Movies we want to see: Funny People, Julie and Julia and Tetro
Movies we do not want to see: The Hurt Locker (looks GREAT but too intense and war-ish!)
Orphan (although great/gross movie poster!)

What else? Who’s seeing what?

I would not mind if the back of my house looked like this! But actually, wouldn’t you know, this little cottage is on the grounds of a “castle” located in Kiesen, Switzerland. I just love how Marc’s mother Marianne, quite the accomplished photographer herself, will pack a bag, throw her camera into the car and head off for a weekend adventure! This time she went not to far from where she lives to nearby the Lake of Thun, the village of Kiesen to see one of her favorite artists named Chantal Michel’s collection displayed in the castle.

THE CASTLE – No one is actually living in the castle, The nobility was very old and died a few years ago and the new owner is a business man. All the precious things including artifacts and furniture were sold at auction.

THE INTERIOR – Artists have been able to display at the castle for only about 2 or 3 years now.

CHANTAL MICHEL – REALLY UNUSUAL INTERESTING STUFF!

We hate the almost non-existent American television coverage of Cannes, WTF??? Will continue to keep following on the web and the red carpet!

One morning while frantically running around outside trying to capture Chloe (this is while she was in heat!) I ran up the driveway to the neighbor’s house and saw this wheelbarrow. I was struck at how beautiful it looked in the sunlight surrounded by Nasturtians (which I later repurposed to my garden – there are hundreds!).

Sometimes beauty is right in front of our noses we just have to look!

On our way to the movies in Pasadena we noticed this very unusual “installment” in the courtyard right outside the Laemmle Theater. Yoko Ono’s Wish Trees:

Wish Tree for Pasadena is an art installation that consists of 21 living crape myrtle trees installed amongst the café tables and chairs in the Courtyard of One Colorado. Visitors are invited to write their wishes on pieces of paper and hang them on the tree branches. Yoko Ono’s Wish Tree for Pasadena is free and open to the public.

Wishes from Wish Tree for Pasadena will be joined with others from all over the world and placed in specially constructed capsules to be installed in the area surrounding Yoko Ono’s Imagine Peace Tower on Videy Island, off the coast of Reykjavík, Iceland. The artwork is dedicated to the memory of John Lennon. The tower, a column of light emanating from a stone base with a radius of about 10 meters, is lit for two months each year starting on October 9, John Lennon’s birthday, and ending on December 9, the anniversary of his death.
