Holly (wreath) Golightly!

by Leslie Patson | 10th December 2010

I am trying to figure out what kind of a wreath I want this year so I decided to take a walk around my Queen Anne neighborhood and see what people were doing. I noticed a couple Eucalyptus wreaths that I thought were just beautiful.

But what I really noticed (and have been noticing for a while) are the beautiful red-berried holly trees that seem to grow in abundance. They really seem to signify Christmas so why not just make a holly wreath?

I have a pre-exising grape vine wreath that’s just waiting to be embellished! I love the way this one hangs from the red ribbon too (thank you Martha!). Might steal that idea! You too can steal ideas from Martha! What a concept, huh? Or at the least, become inspired!

Something I learned – I always liked to gather these little spiky things that fall from trees and use them for decoration. All these years I had no idea what they were called. Now I do. Sweetgum, who knew? Here, spray painted silver. At least they didn’t be-dazzle with glitter….

I also like to put a wreath on the grill of my car. This comes from growing up in Main Line Philadelphia which is a pretty preppy area. When I googled “wreaths on cars” just cuz I was curious I came across some dude on Facebook who thinks people who put wreaths on their car should be “stopped”. I hope this guy does not live in my “hood” cuz guess what suckder, ’tis the season!
