More Queen Anne

I guess you can say it’s been quite a while that Marc and I have had a cozy neighborhood to walk around in but that’s all over now! The house above is right on the corner of our street and we have aptly named it the “childhood house” as it looks like such an idyllic place to grow up, complete with tree swing in the front yard. It’s also not so immaculately groomed like some of those Brentwood houses back in California. I never liked that…

No matter which way we turn in Queen Anne there is something to look at and walking is just a way to get exercise and make discoveries. It’s not only fun to look at the architecture of which these houses have lots of details but also the gardens are incredible! I don’t know what this burgundy colored plant is but it grows everywhere and is really beautiful!

The house with the red door. Normally I don’t like red doors or almost red anything (except tomatoes, cherries and raspberries!) but this house is just so well put together I’m making an exception! The Japanese Maple tree to the left really ties things together too.

This is a bit of a crazy garden but it’s in fact quite pretty. Not so sure what they’ve got growing up there, I’m suspecting some vegetables which done right can really make for a pretty landscape!

Below a snippet of architectural detail from one of the houses.

As you get closer to the water (Lake Union) you see some of the big houses and most of them are dating back (like all the houses around here) to the early 1900′s. Lots of old brick and stone along with the classic wood. Some have built their own versions of McMansions (and everyone refers to Microsoft money) but I like that they have stayed consistent with the area. No freaky palaces to be found yet.

and in the park tucked in between these houses what else but gorgeous hydrangeas…

and if all that’s not enough you wonder what kind of view some of these people might have? Well here it is – which we first saw at night, totally unexpectedly and it was really something. But here is the daytime version, can you say hello Mt. Ranier!
