Willowing Heights
Last weekend we spent some time at Pike Place Market and it’s always so much fun to see what flowers are in season – this time it was tulips galore and much to my delight Pussy Willows!
Tons of bunches of the soft pillowy bunches – I’ve loved them since I was a little girl – we had a bush in our yard on Old State Road in Berwyn, Pa – I also remember forsythia – another good spring branch flower. There’s something beautiful about branches – a little more sculptural and dramatic than flowers, fresh and modern at the same time.
After living in Southern California for so long I kinda lost track of this furry flower and am happy to see them again. A sure sign of spring Pussy Willows are apparently the classic harbinger of spring, opening well before the crocuses and snowdrops. I also saw at Pike Place market that they come in a variety of colors, some brown and some even reddish. For the bunch on my coffee table I stuck with the traditional soft silver grey – beautiful!
